Your First Board

Creating a workspace and understanding the canvas interface.

Welcome to your first practical experience in the AI Process Lab. In this lesson, we move from theory to practice by creating a workspace and familiarizing ourselves with the canvas interface. The environment is designed around an infinite canvas, offering boundless room for your ideas, grounded by a subtle grid that provides essential spatial orientation.

We embrace the Ink & Switch "gentle slope" principle here: start with the simplest possible interaction. Before you attempt to construct intricate AI workflows, your only task is to place a sticky note. By mastering basic navigation—panning with a click and drag, zooming with your scroll wheel—and trusting the auto-save functionality, you build the foundational muscle memory required for more complex tasks ahead.

Assignment

Create your first board in the AI Process Lab. Practice panning and zooming around the canvas. Add at least three different nodes from the toolbar, starting with a simple sticky note, and observe how the system auto-saves your progress.

Learning Objectives

  • Create a new board and navigate the infinite canvas.
  • Understand the spatial orientation provided by the grid background.
  • Add nodes using the toolbar and experience the auto-save functionality.

The Infinite Canvas

A boundless workspace where you can pan by clicking and dragging, and zoom using the scroll wheel. It removes the constraints of traditional document boundaries.

Gentle Slope Principle

An Ink & Switch concept advocating for starting with the simplest interaction, like placing a sticky note, before gradually introducing more complex features.

The binding constraint on AI adoption is not technical skill, but the ability to see your own work clearly enough to redesign it.
